The Celtics have plucked their third player from the Chinese Basketball Association, agreeing to a 10-day contract with former Duke center Shavlik Randolph, who is eligible to play immediately. Randolph has already received his clearance from Foshan Long Lions before he signed with the Celtics, giving the club a much-needed big man. Randolph has not played in the NBA since 2009-10 and has played just 95 games since declaring for the 2005 draft following his junior season at Duke. In 28 games for the Long Lions, he averaged 32 points and 14.5 rebounds. "To be able to say I played for the Boston Celtics, whether it's 10 days, one day, however long it's something that I will carry for the rest of my life," he told the Globe following the team's shootaround. "It's a very pleasant surprise to come back to. I'm very honored and privileged for this opportunity." Randolph played 79 games with the Philadelphia 76ers from the 2005-06 to 2007-08, played 10 games with Portland in 2008-09, and then spent three-game stints with the Miami Heat and the Trail Blazers again before playing last preseason with the Washington Wizards. He then signed with Foshan after being waived. "I don't think my game's changed, I just think I've played a lot more," he said. "My five years in the NBA, I didn't play that much. I was a spot-minute guy. In the last year and half, since I was last with Miami, I've just played a lot, obviously it's overseas but I've just played and that's the best way to get better." Said president of basketball operations Danny Ainge: "We just think Shavlik knows how to play, plays hard, has experience and yet is still fresh enough and young enough. I've always liked the way Shavlik has played."
