Out: Norv Turner

Comment: Turner and GM A.J. Smith entered 2012 knowing it was a playoffs-or-bust season, and the Chargers went belly up by midseason under the weight of poor offensive line play that led to another season of regression by former elite QB Philip Rivers. Widely considered a better offensive coordinator than head coach, Turner will be a hot commodity on the assistant coaching circuit. General manager A.J. Smith was also fired.

Candidates: Andy Reid has a home in San Diego and has been scheduled to meet with the Chargers, although it remains to be seen if that interview will take place with Reid reportedly close to accepting the Kansas City Chiefs' head coaching job. Former Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt and former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith are reportedly interested in the job, and the Chargers want to talk to Indianapolis offensive coordinator Bruce Arian. It's unclear if the Chargers will hire a new general manager before hiring their new head coach.

Ron Rivera, Panthers: The Panthers fired general manager Marty Hurney during the season, and will hire a replacement before Rivera's fate is determined.

Mike Mularkey, Jaguars: Mularkey's status ultimately will also be determined by the new general manager after Gene Smith was fired.
