The Bears continue to be vague intentionally when it comes to the question of likely free agent Brian Urlacher and their interest in him for 2013. With less than three weeks until the start of the new league year March 12, the club would have you believe it's an open-ended situation. "The sense of urgency is just by the calendar," general manager Phil Emery said Thursday at the start of the NFL scouting combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. "We're going to sit down with his agents and eventually talk to Brian and see where we all come out with this." Urlacher, 35 in May, has made it clear he would like to re-sign. But the Bears are spending at least some time here exploring draft options at middle linebacker with plans to meet with Notre Dame's Manti Te'o. That is no surprise. Te'o is one of the top-rated inside linebackers in the draft and most teams will be doing their homework on him and Georgia's Alec Ogletree, who had a recent DUI arrest and was suspended the first four games last season for a failed drug test. The workout for linebackers is Monday and both players can head in either direction on draft boards based on how they perform. When asked about Te'o, Emery indirectly referenced bizarre situation with imaginary girlfriend Lennay Kekua. "Believe me, there are unique stories across every college class," Emery said. "So, is that unique? No. That is a situation and issue that has to be dealt with and worked through. We will sit down and talk to the player about it and see where he is at on it. "Everyone is going to have their own unique situations with their family that they have had to deal with, off the field, on the field, situations that come up in life. It's about how they handle it. Can they still produce and be a productive member of your team?" Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he is interested to see how Te'o handles his media obligation Saturday. He also said the Vikings have been more active monitoring the social media adventures of draft prospects.
Emery won't 'slight' Urlacher
