The question of whether NFL players would accept an openly gay teammate was raised again this week with a report that team executives want to know whether former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o is gay. Mike Florio of NBC Sports and ProFootballTalk.com said on "The Dan Patrick Show" that teams are wondering about Te'o's sexual orientation in the wake of the fake girlfriend hoax, because the issue has the potential to divide the clubhouse. "Teams want to know if Manti Te'o is gay," Florio said. "They just want to know. They want to know because in an NFL locker room, it's a different world. ... It's been described to me as the proverbial elephant in the room and I don't think anyone knows how to solve this dilemma yet." Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim Miller cited religion Tuesday in arguing that an openly gay player would not be welcomed in NFL locker rooms. “There are some religions that are just not going to accept a gay individual in the locker room,” Miller told "The McNeil and Spiegel Show" on WSCR-AM 670. “So now, are you as an organization going to bring that element into your locker room and think everything is going to be OK? "Last time I checked, whether it’s Christianity or Muslims or other religions that are out there, they’re just not going to accept it. They're just not. It's just not realistic for Mike Florio or any progressive or liberal to think that everything is going to be OK in the locker room and we should all just wise up and accept it.” Asked his stance on whether gays should be accepted, Miller said, “I could care less. You can play football or you can’t. I’m just giving you my point of view that certain factions of a locker room will not accept it. ... That's the reality of the situation.” - See more at: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-miller-religion-gays-locker-room-20130226,0,2832792.story#sthash.M2KRaXhE.dpuf
