The sight of Marian Hossa prone on the United Center ice following a hit to the head is a sickening and all too familiar sight for the Blackhawks. The veteran was injured during the third period of the Hawks' 4-3 shootout victory over the Canucks on Tuesday night at the United Center after taking a forearm to the back of his head from Jannik Hansen. Last season, Hossa suffered a severe, season-ending concussion following an illegal hit from the Coyotes' Raffi Torres during the first round of the playoffs. "I saw him after the game (and) he seems okay but we'll know more (Wednesday)," Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said following Tuesday's game. "It's a major concern. Hopefully, he's okay." After the hit from Hansen, Hossa was down on the ice for several moments before he was helped to the bench and then into the dressing room. "That's ugly and very unfortunate," Hawks captain Jonathan Toews said. "You never want to see that. I don't know the situation yet but we hope that it's just a minor scare for now and he'll be back soon." Hansen said he believes the hit was "a hockey play." "We were both kind of jumping for (the puck)," Hansen added. "He grabs the puck first and as I'm coming down I kind of land on him a little bit. Apparently, I hit him in the back of the head is what the ref was telling me once I come down. It's hard for me to tell what really happened." Hansen said he did not believe he deserves supplemental discipline from the league. "It's out of my hands," Hansen said. The game is happening very fast out there. It's up to them to look at it now. I don't believe there is out of what I saw." When the Hawks and Canucks played Feb. 1, Hansen slashed the Hawks' Dave Bolland in the ankle and the center missed one game. After that incident, the Hawks said they didn't have an issue with the play. They do on Tuesday night's hit and expect the league to look into it.
