The Cleveland Indians placed second baseman Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right oblique.

The move is retroactive to Wednesday.

Cleveland recalled infielder Jose Ramirez from Triple-A Columbus to take Kipnis' spot on the 25-man roster.

Kipnis batting .234 with six doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs in 27 games this season.

Ramirez, 22, is batting .319 with three doubles, four home runs and 17 RBIs in 23 games with Columbus.
