Following a strong debut effort for the Lehigh football team, freshman Derek Knott was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday. Knott had a pair of receptions in the Mountain Hawks’ 27-17 win over Monmouth at Goodman Stadium, including a 19 yard catch-and-run for a touchdown on his first career reception.
With less than five minutes remaining in the opening quarter, Knott caught a swing pass in the left flat from quarterback Mike Colvin and with the help of several key blocks raced down the sideline for a touchdown that gave the Mountain Hawks a 14-0 advantage. The Orlando, Fla. native finished with two catches for 15 yards on the day. He also returned two kickoffs for a total of 29 yards, with a long return of 22 yards early in the third quarter.
Knott is the first Mountain Hawk to be named Patriot League Rookie of the Week since 2009. That year three different Lehigh players earned Rookie of the Week honors: Colvin (twice), Zach Barket and Bryan Andrews.
