The Detroit Lions signed Reggie Bush to a four-year contract on Wednesday and planned to introduce the free agent running back at a news conference later in the day.

"We knew all the talent," coach Jim Schwartz said. "What we didn't know was the person. ... We think he's going to fit well in our locker room."

It was a busy day for the Lions, who earlier re-signed free agent cornerback Chris Houston and signed safety Glover Quin, formerly of the Houston Texans, and defensive lineman Jason Jones, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.

The 29-year-old Bush showed the last two years in Miami that he can be an every-down tailback, rushing for 2,072 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons with the Dolphins.

"I feel like I got drafted all over again," Bush said, donning a Honolulu blue cap with the Lions logo. "This is the first time I've been a free agent. ... I didn't get any sleep last night. ... I got about 2-3 hours, just thinking about all the possibilities."

Bush said he had a great meeting with Lions coaches, including Schwartz and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan on Tuesday and playing with wide receiver Calvin Johnson -- and against defenses fixed on backpedaling -- is "a running back's dream."

"I think it's going to work out well," Bush said.

The offensive terminology is largely familiar to Bush, he said, and any defined role the team has for him isn't a concern as long as the results are promising. He said he isn't worried about what happened in Detroit last year or the year before, knowing from experience it can take only one season to go from 5-11 to the Super Bowl.

"Winning is the most important thing to me, it's not about numbers," Bush said.

Bush, who was used in a utility role in six seasons with New Orleans earlier in his career, played in every game last year for the first time since 2006 and finished with 986 yards, barely missing a second straight 1,000-yard season.

In 91 games during his career with the Saints and Dolphins, Bush has 4,162 yards rushing and 2,730 receiving, with 48 touchdowns, 29 rushing, 15 receiving and four on returns.

The 27-year-old Quin started every game for the Houston Texans, who drafted him in 2009, in the last three seasons. He finished with 84 tackles, 14 passes defensed and two interceptions for the Texans in 2012.

Quin, who entered the NFL as a cornerback, is expected to take the starting spot of free safety Louis Delmas, who the Lions are expected to lose in free agency.
