Mike Green didn’t skate Friday and he won’t be making the trip to Winnipeg with the Capitals this afternoon because he aggravated the groin injury that caused him to miss three games in February. “It’s obviously concerning because of his past history,” Coach Adam Oates said. “We need to really get this correct.” Green sat out three games from Feb. 17-23 with a groin injury before returning to the lineup against Carolina and Philadelphia earlier this week. He played over 21 minutes in both contests and Oates said that Green didn’t react well to taking full contact from the Capitals opponents. “It’s just not quite feeling right. He played a couple games, got hit a little bit. It’s just not quite right, so we’re taking a step back until he heals,” Oates said. “It’s the type of injury where you think you’re good. Until you get really, truly bumped, you can’t really tell.” Green, 27, missed 41 games last season with a lingering groin strain that then resulted in an abdominal tear and required sports hernia surgery. Dating back to the start of the 2010-11 season, Green has missed 83 of the past 183 regular season games with various injuries. And once again the Capitals must find a way to advance without Green, who signed a three-year, $18.25 million contract as a restricted free agent last summer. Given his previous injury history, Oates couldn’t offer an estimate of how much time he expects the defenseman to miss. “We’ll see how he is when we come back,” Oates said. “Maybe a couple treatments and he feels that much better. Hard to give you an answer.”
