Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby took the ice for the first time in weeks for a brief on-ice workout Monday.

Crosby is attempting to return from his latest setback due to concussion-like symptoms. It was also revealed over the weekend that Crosby had also suffered a neck injury last January, which may have played a role in his lengthy recovery from a concussion.

The 24-year-old skated with teammates Jordan Staal and Simon Despres at Consol Energy Center.

Crosby met with doctors in Los Angeles over the All-Star weekend, where it was determined that his neck injury has fully healed.

Crosby has been sidelined since Dec. 5 when his concussion-like symptoms returned. He had skated early this month during a trip to Florida.

The Penguins, who have won seven in a row, are hopeful that their star center can return this season.
