Phillies release Betancourt, solidify infield
The Phillies released veteran infielder Yuniesky Betancourt on Sunday.
The move likely signifies that Kevin Frandsen and Freddy Galvis will each make the Phillies opening day roster as utility infielders.
Betancourt had been hitting over .400 this spring, which forced the Phillies to make a difficult choice.
Betancourt had an opt-out clause in his contract for Sunday which called for the Phillies to inform him whether or not he'd be on the opening day roster.
The Phillies reportedly tried to trade Betancourt before ultimately releasing him.
