The Columbus Blue Jackets' improbable run has put a trip to the Western Conference playoffs well within their reach. The Blue Jackets look to extend their franchise-record point streak to 12 games when they host the Calgary Flames on Friday. Columbus is two points out of eighth place in the conference after going 7-0-4 since a 1-0 loss at Chicago on Feb. 24. "There's a confidence in here," Blue Jackets forward Vinny Prospal told the Columbus Dispatch. "It's not easy for teams to come into this rink right now. They know they're in for a battle."Calgary is going in the opposite direction as it has dropped five of its last seven games, including a 5-3 loss at Nashville on Thursday. The Flames are winless in their last eight on the road (0-7-1) and tied for last in the West with Colorado at 26 points.TV: 7 p.m. ET, Rogers Sportsnet West (Calgary), FSN Ohio (Columbus).ABOUT THE FLAMES (11-13-4): The trade deadline is less than two weeks away, and it is becoming more likely the Flames will be sellers. Calgary is only six points out of eighth place in the West, however, and a win over Columbus could ignite a run. Captain Jarome Iginla scored his eighth goal against Nashville and Curtis Glencross has collected seven points in the last four games for the Flames, who are sixth in the West in goals. Alex Tanguay leads Calgary with 23 points. Coach Bob Hartley has not been pleased with his defense, which has allowed 27 goals over the last seven contests. The Flames rank 27th in goals allowed.ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (12-12-6): Columbus has leaned on its defense and goaltending during its run, giving up only 12 goals over the last nine games. Sergei Bobrovsky has allowed more than two goals in a game only once this month, the 4-3 victory over Nashville on Tuesday, and boasts a .931 save percentage on the season. Prospal leads the way with 18 points for Columbus, which ranks last in the league in goals and 27th on the power play. The Blue Jackets, who have earned at least one point in 14 of their 18 home games (9-4-5), lost at Calgary 4-3 in overtime on Feb. 7.OVERTIME1. Columbus is third in penalty-killing (86.6 percent) after it was the worst in the NHL in 2011-12. 2. Calgary D Jay Bouwmeester, often mentioned in trade rumors, registered his 300th career point on Thursday.3. Columbus D Tim Erixon, acquired from the New York Rangers in the Rick Nash deal during the offseason, has four assists and a plus-4 rating in 22 games.PREDICTION: Blue Jackets 3, Flames 2
