The Florida Panthers are surrendering goals at an alarming rate. A five-game road trip that begins at the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday could make matters worse. The Panthers are winless in six straight and have earned only three points in nine games this month. The Hurricanes, who won back-to-back meetings with Florida to begin March, are battling for the Southeast Division lead and trying to end a three-game slide.Carolina has totaled four goals in the last three contests and will be playing the second game of a back-to-back set after suffering a 2-1 shootout loss at the New York Rangers on Monday. The Hurricanes are trying to fight off the hard-charging Winnipeg Jets for first place in the Southeast. The Panthers are the perfect team against which to get the offense going, as they are the only club in the NHL to have allowed more than 100 goals (109).TV: 7 p.m. ET, FSN (Florida, Carolina)ABOUT THE HURRICANES (15-11-2): Carolina had averaged 4.1 goals during a 6-1-0 stretch through March 12 but has fallen short of that pace in three straight games. Captain Eric Staal has scored the lone goal in each of the last two contests and the Hurricanes squandered a strong effort from goaltender Dan Ellis in Monday's setback. The Panthers have provided less of a challenge. Carolina earned a 6-2 home win on March 2 and followed that up with a 3-2 victory in Florida one night later. Jussi Jokinen and Staal each had two goals on March 2, while Alexander Semin and Jordan Staal tallied the following game.ABOUT THE PANTHERS (7-16-6): Florida earned a 5-1 victory over the Hurricanes in the season opener but totaled five goals while losing the next five games to set the campaign off the wrong way. Things have not gotten much better since, and the Panthers are near the bottom of the league in goals allowed and special teams. They have surrendered 26 tallies during the six-game winless streak and have not scored on the power play in any of their nine contests this month. Florida is four points behind the Buffalo Sabres in the race to avoid the worst record in the East and is hoping goaltender Scott Clemmensen can snap out of his slump on the road trip. The veteran netminder has allowed an average of 4.2 goals in five starts this month.OVERTIME1. Clemmensen is 3-6-0 with a 3.16 goals-against average in 11 career games - seven starts - against the Hurricanes. He started both meetings earlier this month and surrendered all nine goals.2. Florida RW George Parros (upper body) and LW Scottie Upshall (lower body) both are questionable for Tuesday.3. Carolina C Tuomo Ruutu (hip) has yet to play this season but could make his debut against the Panthers.PREDICTION: Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3
