Losers of four straight games, the Colorado Avalanche are floundering at the bottom of the Western Conference. Colorado will try to end its skid on Wednesday when it hosts the Dallas Stars, who snapped a four-game winless streak on Monday. The Avalanche have allowed 20 goals on their losing streak and Semyon Varlamov and Jean-Sebastien Giguere - who was pulled after allowing four goals in one period of his last start - do not seem capable of slowing that pace. Colorado's defense carries much of the blame as well, allowing over 30 shots in eight of nine games this month.Dallas, which held on for a 4-3 win over Calgary to wrap up a four-game homestand on Monday, has been struggling with inconsistency from goaltender Kari Lehtonen. Backup Richard Bachman was sent to the American Hockey League on Tuesday for rookie netminder Jack Campbell, who could see his first career NHL action this week. Lehtonen made only 16 saves in Monday's victory and has not fared well despite Dallas limiting its opponents' chances in recent games. To make matters worse, the Stars scored a total of three goals during their winless skid, which they matched in the first period against the Flames.TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Southwest Plus, AltitudeABOUT THE STARS (13-12-3): Jamie Benn has two assists in as many games since missing two with a wrist injury. Benn is skating on a line with Ray Whitney, who has four points in four games since recovering from a broken foot, and Loui Eriksson, who scored twice against Calgary and leads the team with six points in seven games this month. While that line is producing for Dallas, its secondary scoring is lacking. Jaromir Jagr has been held off the scoresheet in each of the last four games, Derek Roy has one assist in his last five and trade acquisition Erik Cole has two goals in eight games with the team. ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (10-14-4): Defenseman Ryan Wilson has missed the last two contests after aggravating an ankle injury that originally kept him out for 15 games. Milan Hejduk was a scratch on Saturday against Minnesota but returned to score a goal in Monday's 5-2 loss to Chicago. Hejduk also missed a 4-0 loss to Edmonton last week and has only played three games this month while battling a neck injury. Matt Duchene has five points on a three-game streak and a team-leading 12 in nine games this month - one ahead of linemate PA Parenteau. Ryan O'Reilly was reunited on a line with captain Gabriel Landeskog three games ago and the pair has since combined on two goals. OVERTIME1. The teams will face each other again in Dallas on Saturday. The Stars posted a 3-2 win at Colorado on Feb. 4.2. Benn has 11 points in 13 career games against the Avalanche, including two goals and an assist in the earlier meeting.3. Campbell, who was drafted 11th overall by Dallas in 2010, is 14-10-3 with the Texas Stars in his first full professional season.PREDICTION: Avalanche 5, Stars 3
