The Reading Phillies know that with the format of their playoff series against Trenton, they can have a huge advantage because of the schedule. Wins in games one and two in Baseballtown will put them one win from eliminating the Thunder. They won game one. They were looking for a game two win on Thursday night.
The Phillies got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with an RBI single off the bat of Darin Ruf that scored Tyson Gillies.
But the Thunder answered back in the fifth. Addison Maruszak connected for a solo homer off Trevor May to deep left. May May went five and a third innings of one run ball. He struck out six.
But the big inning came in the top of the ninth. With the game tied at one and the bases loaded, Rob Segedin ripped a bases clearing triple to right. That put Trenton up 4-1 and they wouldn't look back, winning by that score.
With the series tied at 1-1, play now shifts to Trenton where the R-Phils must win two of three to advance to the Eastern League Championship Series.
