Maple Leafs 5, Senators 4: Phil Kessel scored a power-play goal in the third period and added two assists as host Toronto held off its provincial rival for its third straight victory.James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak had a goal and an assist apiece and Jay McClement scored his second goal in as many games for the Maple Leafs, who led 3-0 early in the second period. Nazem Kadri also scored and has 10 points on a six-game streak, while James Reimer made 39 saves to win his sixth straight start.Zack Smith netted his first of the season, rookie Mika Zibanejad scored his fifth and captain Daniel Alfredsson snapped a seven-game goal-scoring drought for the Senators, who are winless in their last four contests. Ben Bishop stopped 23 shots and Colin Greening scored with with 1:57 remaining to bring Ottawa within one.Kessel set up Bozak to open the scoring on a broken play in the first period before McClement doubled the advantage just 56 seconds later. Van Riemsdyk extended the lead 1:20 into the second after converting a cross-crease feed from Kessel, who has nine points in as many games.Zibanejad scored on a delayed penalty and Smith pulled Ottawa within one early in the third, but Kessel's power-play goal and Kadri's 10th of the season regained Toronto's three-goal cushion. Alfredsson and Greening chipped away at the lead late in the period but the Senators couldn't net the equalizer despite outshooting the Maple Leafs 18-4 in the final 20 minutes.GAME NOTEBOOK: The heated rivalry between these two teams showed itself early with two fights. Toronto's Frazer McLaren knocked out Ottawa's Dave Dziurzynski 26 seconds into the game. Dziurzynski suffered a concussion and did not return. A few minutes later, Colton Orr of the Maple Leafs and Chris Neil dropped the gloves. … Mark Stone of the Senators finished minus-1 in his first regular-season NHL game. Stone made his debut in a playoff game last season and registered an assist. … Alfredsson has 71 points in 78 career games against the Maple Leafs.
