The Gophers closed to within 36-25 on a 3-pointer by Austin Hollins but the Boilermakers closed the half with a 8-2 run fueled by five points by Byrd to lead 44-27 at halftime.The Gophers nailed four 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the second half to close to within 51-44 with 14:49 to go. But the Boilermakers answered with a 13-2 run a few minutes later to up their lead to 66-48, and Minnesota never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way. GAME NOTEBOOK: Purdue, which entered the weekend as the top-ranked rebounding team in the Big Ten, finished with a 33-30 edge on the boards. ... The 44 points at halftime marked the highest first-half scoring total of the season for the Boilermakers. ... Boilermaker F Sandi Marcius, who left the Michigan game with a sprained right ankle, scored two points and had two rebounds off the bench.
