Chicago Cubs right-hander Matt Garza avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal on Friday to remain with the club.

The contract is worth $9.5 million plus performance bonuses, ESPN Chicago reported Garza's representation - CAA Sports - as announcing.

Garza posted a 10-10 mark with a 3.32 ERA and 197 strikeouts in 198 innings in his first season with the Cubs.

The 28-year-old Garza has secured a 52-54 career record with a 3.83 ERA in six seasons.
