Darin Ruf continued his home run barrage Friday night, belting his 34th homer of the season in the Reading Phillies 6-2 win over Erie in Baseballtown.
Ruf's 34 home runs are just three shy of Ryan Howard's R-Phils and Eastern League single-season record of 37.
Leandro Castro had three hits and an RBI in the game.
Adam Morgan (3-0, 3.00) pitched six solid innings in the win for Reading.
The win, coupled with New Britain's loss in New Hampshire, opens up a two-game lead for Reading in the East Division wildcard race.
The R-Phils (70-62) will continue their series with the Sea Wolves on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
