The agent for Nnamdi Asomugha said Friday morning he expects the Eagles to ask the high-priced one-time all-pro cornerback to take a pay cut. Agent Ben Dogra told CSNPhilly.com Eagles Insider Geoff Mosher at the NFL Scouting Combine he was on his way to meet with Eagles brass to discuss Asomugha’s future. Asomugha, whose play has declined dramatically in two years with the Eagles after three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons with the Raiders, is due $15 million in base salary in 2013, with $4 million guaranteed. A league source said Friday morning if Asomugha doesn’t accept a significant pay cut, the Eagles will release him. Asomugha this past season became the poster child for the dysfunctional 4-12 Andy Reid Eagles, so the fact that the Eagles would consider bringing him back in 2013 at even a dramatically reduced salary is kind of shocking. On Thursday, new head coach Chip Kelly gave Asomugha a lukewarm endorsement when meeting with the media at the Combine. Asked about Asomugha, he muttered this non-sequitor: “I think that Nnamdi has a skill set. That can play football.” In December, Asomugha indicated he’d be willing to accept a pay cut and said he was hoping to remain in Philly. "I think [it’s] really important,” he said. “I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I definitely want to be back here.”
