AP source: 76ers hire Brett Brown as coach
A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press the Philadelphia 76ers have hired San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown to be their coach, ending a four-month search to replace Doug Collins.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday because the move has not been officially announced.
Collins resigned in April after the Sixers went 34-48.
New general manager Sam Hinkie took quite a while looking for a replacement before choosing Brown, who was part of three NBA title teams with San Antonio.
Brown helped lead the Spurs to the NBA Finals last season, where they lost to the Miami Heat in seven games.
Brown, along with new general manager Sam Hinkie, would be at the head of a major rebuilding project with the 76ers, who failed to make the postseason last year and finished in last place in the Atlantic Division, a year after advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals.
