Former Alvernia teammates now teammates with the Mets

Reading, Pa. (June 22, 2013) - The New York Mets recalled former Crusader Zach Lutz from AAA Las Vegas and placed first baseman Lucas Duda on the disabled list Saturday evening.  Lutz joins former Alvernia teammate Anthony Recker on the Mets' active roster for the first time this season.

It's the first time two former Division III players from the same school are on the same MLB roster at the same time.  Lutz and Recker saw time together in the same game a handful of times for the Mets in spring training.  Recker made the opening day roster as a catcher.  Lutz broke camp with the major league team due to uncertainty about Justin Turner's health, but was sent to AAA Las Vegas the day before the major league opener.

Lutz was initially in the starting lineup for the Las Vegas 51s on Saturday night at home against Salt Lake, but was replaced by Rylan Sandoval before the game started.  He was batting .286 with seven homers and 37 RBIs in 53 games for the 51s this season.

Recker has played in 16 games with the big club this season.  He has three doubles, two homers, and eight RBIs, and is batting .174.

Lutz will try to catch a red-eye flight from Vegas to Philadelphia Saturday night in an effort to make a 1:35 p.m. game time against the Phillies.
