Lafayette and Lehigh players honored by Patriot League

The Patriot League football season was certainly interesting and entertaining this fall. There were plenty of surprises, including the team holding the trophy when the dust settled. Lafayette's run was impressive and unexpected. Today, the league honored the best players from the season. Among them, several Leopards. On the first team honorees included wide receiver Mark Ross who had another standout season for the Leopards including a big touchdown grab Saturday at Lehigh. Matt Smalley is also on the first team, twice. Smalley was honored as a defensive back and kick returner. Lehigh's honorees included playmakers Keith Sherman, who finished with some huge games late in the season at tailback, and Lee Kurfis, who broke Lehigh's single season receptions record in his breakout season.  Here's the entire list of first team honorees for both teams. Lafayette has five on the first team, as do the Mountain Hawks.  Congrats to all the players that made the teams, but one guy that didn' make the teams is stealing some of the headlines today. Drew Reed, Lafayette's freshman quarterback, was snubbed. Reed took over for Lafayette under center and played most of the snaps in league play. He led Lafayette to the league title and was a real difference maker for Lafayette. Yet, he's nowhere to be found on the All -League teams or as the rookie of the year, and there are many that would argue he should be one of the first guys on those lists. Reed leads Lafayette into New Hampshire and the playoffs on Saturday.
