The Hamburg and Kutztown football teams have performed well in non-league play to start the season.

Chuck Kutz's first year as head coach of the Hamburg football team has gotten off to a strong start. The Hawks are 3-1, sitting near the top of Berks II.

Hamburg welcomes another 3-1 team to Hawk Hill Friday night, Mahanoy Area out of District 11.

The Hawks boast the two top rushers in the County, Jordan McAllister and Logan Werley.

That's due to both their talent and the performance of the boys in the trenches. If that continues, Hamburg feels like its in good shape this season.

In Kutztown, hats off to Matt Hoffert and his Kutztown Cougars.

The squad snapped the program's 42-game losing streak two weeks ago, and have captured two straight victories to enter the week at 2-1.

Kutztown has a strong opportunity to make that 3-1 at home against Nativity Friday.

For the Cougars, it's all been about attitude. The team has been much more positive this year, with guys picking each other up. The team is hoping to get better with each week and continue its resurgence.
