Abdur-Rahkman, McDonald named Via Player of the Year

Abdur-Rahkman, McDonald named Via Players of the Year

Central Catholic's Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman and Southern Lehigh's Madelene McDonald were named the players of the year at Wednesday night's Via All-Star Banquet.

Abdur-Rahkman surpassed the 2,000-point mark for his career this season, leading Central Catholic to a 30-0 record, the LVC and District 11 titles, and a trip to the PIAA state quarterfinals.

McDonald averaged 16 points per game for Southern Lehigh and was named the Colonial League's MVP.

Via also inducted five new members into the Lehigh Valley High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

Emmaus' Aaron Gray, Central Catholic's Sara Antolick, Phillipsburg Catholic's Tom Brennan, RCN-TV's Gary Laubach, and the 1980-1981 Allen girls basketball team were all inducted.

The event was held at the Sands Event Center in Bethlehem.

Basketball Hall of Famer James Worthy served as the keynote speaker.
