Turnovers cost Parkland in PIAA state playoff loss

Turnovers cost Parkland in PIAA state playoff loss

Costly turnovers burned Parkland Wednesday night in a gut-wrenching 60-57 loss to West Chester Rusting in the second round of the PIAA 4A state playoffs.

The Trojans led most of the game before Rustin turned up the heat defensively in the fourth quarter, forcing a series of key Trojan turnovers.

Justin Zajko hit a pair of free throws to put Parkland up by one with less than 20 seconds to play.

But Rustin's Ethan Ridgeway hit a running layup with eight seconds left to give Rustin the lead.

Parkland then turned it over on the ensuing inbounds pass, which led to two more points via Rustin free throws.

Jimmy Hahn had a game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer, which barely rimmed out as time expired.

Parkland ends its season at 22-6 and with back-to-back District 11 titles and trips to the second round of the state tournament.
