Kutztown falls in PSAC Tournament opener

Kutztown falls in round one

The Kutztown University softball team was unable to silence the bats of Bloomsburg University Thursday afternoon as the Golden Bears fell 16-0 in five innings to the Huskies in the opening round of the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Veterans Park in Quakertown.

Kutztown (30-14) remains alive in the double elimination tournament. It will play next on Thursday, May 4 at 10 a.m. If victorious, KU would then play at 3 p.m., and then a potential third game of the day at 6 p.m. if victorious again.

Also on Wednesday, the latest NCAA Atlantic Region poll was released. KU remained third for the third straight week, while the Huskies (29-16) moved up to sixth. West Chester and West Virginia Wesleyan remain the top teams. Behind Kutztown is Shepherd in fourth, Charleston (WV) in fifth, Bloomsburg in sixth, UVA-Wise in seventh and Concord rounding out the top-eight.

In the PSAC First Round matchup Wednesday, Kutztown made it through a scoreless first inning, but Bloomsburg put up a seven-run second-inning to chase KU's starting pitcher. Bloomsburg followed with nine runs in the fourth, chasing KU's second pitcher of the day, as it finished with 15 hits in four innings at the plate.
