BETHLEHEM -

The Lehigh football game has opened its season with a pair of losses by a combined seven points. The Mountain Hawks look to breakthrough Saturday down at Penn.

Lehigh was in a good old fashioned street fight Saturday on the Main Line. Nick Shafnisky threw for 246 yards and a touchdown and an interception, and rushed for another score in a game that went back and forth. Unfortunately the defense gave up nearly 400 yards on the ground. Villanova took the 26-21 lead with 4:20 left in the game and never relinquished it, dropping the Mountain Hawks to 0-2 on the season.

Saturday Lehigh travels to Franklin Field to take on Penn in their season opener. The Quakers went 7-3 last season, but fell to Lehigh, 42-21 right here at Goodman Stadium. The Brown and White are hoping having that two game experience under their belt will be an advantage to finally get them over the hump and get their first victory of the season.
