Lehigh places five in quarterfinals

Two other locals advance to quarters

CLEVELAND - Lehigh wrestling enjoyed a successful first day at the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling National Championships at The Quicken Loans Arena. All 10 Mountain Hawks are still alive in competition with five of them in the quarterfinals.

Darian Cruz of Bethlehem Catholic, Scott Parker, Jordan Kutler, Ryan Preisch, and Chris Weiler will wrestle next in the quarterfinal round. A quintet in the quarterfinals is the most for Lehigh since 2003.

Luke Karam, Cortlandt Schuyler, Ian Brown, Gordon Wolf, and Jordan Wolf are still alive in the consolation bracket.

As a team, the Mountain Hawks compiled 14.5 points and they are tied for ninth.

Additionally, Pete Renda of NC State, a graduate of Brandywine Heights, and Austin DeSanto of Drexel, a Exeter graduate, advanced to the quarterfinals as well.

Action will resume on Friday morning.
