Fightin Phils beat Richmond, avert sweep

The Reading Fightin Phils beat the Flying Squirrels 6-2 on Sunday, salvaging the final game of the weekend series in Richmond.

Reading had been 1-17 in its last 18 games heading into Sunday's action.

The Fightin Phils scored five runs in the third inning to break the game open.

Peter Lavin and K.C. Serna both had three hits for the Fightin Phils, while Aaron Altherr added a pair of RBIs.

Severino Gonzalez (7-9, 4.71) struck out seven over eight strong innings to earn the win.

Reading (35-50) will return home to Baseballtown on Monday to open a four-game series with Trenton.  Game one starts at 7:05pm.
