Fightin Phils power past Richmond, 5-3

The Fightin Phils hit three home runs in a 5-3 win over Richmond Friday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Maikel Franco, the 8th-ranked prospect in the Phillies' system, hit his first Double-A home run in his second Double-A game to put Reading on the board in the second inning.

Trailling 3-1 in the sixth inning, Jim Murphy hit his Eastern League-leading 14th home run to cut the lead down to one.

Tyson Gillies followed with a two-run homer later that inning to give the Fightin Phils the lead for good.

David Buchanan (4-7, 4.53) earned the win on the mound.

The win was the seventh in the last nine games for Reading, which improves to 31-41 overall.

The Fightin Phils will resume their series with Richmond on Saturday at 6:35pm in Baseballtown.
