Phillies cut Gillies from 40-man roster

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Outfielder Tyson Gillies has been cut from the Phillies 40-man roster after going through waivers unclaimed on Friday.

Gillies was still on Lehigh Valley's roster Friday, although he's struggled most of the year.

Aside from the lack of production, the speedster has also dealt with injuries and the off the field problems.

Gillies was a key piece of the 2009 Cliff Lee trade with the Mariners. So far, none of the three players that came to Philadelphia in that trade have met expectations.
