Rain washes out Mets-Phillies game

PHILADELPHIA - Rain gave the Philadelphia Phillies a mini All-Star break.

Wednesday night's game between the Phillies and New York Mets was postponed because of rain, giving the Phillies three days off in a four-day span. The Phillies, who were off Monday, return to the field Friday night against Washington.

The game against the Mets was rescheduled for June 2 at 7:05 p.m. Both teams had been scheduled for a day off then.

The Mets beat the Phillies 6-1 Tuesday night in a game played during steady rain after a delay of 1 hour, 28 minutes at the start. The Mets will travel to Colorado to open a four-game set on Thursday night.

Bartolo Colon (2-3), who was scheduled to start against the Phillies, will take the mound in the opener at the Rockies.

The Phillies will skip Kyle Kendrick and Roberto Hernandez, their fourth and fifth starters. Cliff Lee, A.J. Burnett and Cole Hamels will start on regular four days' rest against the Nationals.

Kendrick will pitch Monday against Toronto followed by Hernandez on Tuesday.

This was the first postponement this season for the Mets. The Phillies (13-13) had three home games postponed in April, including their home opener that was played the next day.

The Mets, off to a 15-11 start, will get outfielder Juan Lagares back on their road trip. Lagares has been sidelined by a hamstring injury since April 15.

NOTES: The Mets sent an open letter to fans, inviting them to add their name to a list calling themselves "True New Yorkers" and urging them to show their support. Former Mets greats Doc Gooden, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling were among those who signed the letter.
