Giants stretch win streak to 3, beat Raiders 24-20

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - 21521502

A couple of comeback kids kept the New York Giants' season alive.

Terrell Thomas returned an interception 65 yards to set up a go-ahead 1-yard touchdown run by fellow comebacker Andre Brown, and the New York Giants won their third straight game, 24-20 Sunday over Oakland.

The error-prone Giants (3-6) handed the Raiders (3-6) their first 17 points on first-half turnovers. But they got 115 yards rushing by Brown in his first game this season, and another big defensive game to keep their season alive.

Despite throwing another pick-6, Eli Manning threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle, and Cooper Taylor scored on a 21-yard return with a blocked punt. Josh Brown added a field goal.

Terrelle Pryor scored on 1-yard run and Tracy Porter on a 43-yard interception return for Oakland. Sebastian Janikowski kicked two field goals.

Coming off an embarrassing 49-20 loss to Philadelphia, this was a game the Raiders probably should have won despite only 213 yards in total offense. Porter's interception return put them ahead 17-14 at the half and Janikowski's 24-yard field goal that capped an eight-minute stretched the lead to 20-14.

It should have been more. Oakland had a first-and-goal at the New York 1 on the 14-play drive. But they wound up with a field goal.

Then Oakland got the ball back at the New York 48 following a 27-yard punt by Steve Weatherford into a stiff breeze. And Thomas, who missed the last two seasons with ACL injuries, made the biggest play of the game. He stepped in front of Denarius Moore and ran toward the gaping end zone, avoiding a tackle by Pryor inside the 20 before being tackled by Andre Holmes.

The ball came loose, and officials said Thomas was down.

Andre Brown, who broke his left leg for the second time in less than a year in the preseason finale, gave the Giants the lead from the 1-yard line following a pass interference call.

Josh Brown added a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter and New York iced the game when Mathias Kiwanuka had a sack-forced fumble on Oakland's final possession.

Despite being limited to 99 yards in the first half, the Raiders led 17-14.

Pryor scored from 1 yard on the second play from scrimmage. Taiwan Jones forced Jerrel Jernigan to cough up the ball on the opening kickoff return, and Holmes returned the ball 22 yards to the Giants 5.

New York, which had given up special teams touchdowns in the two previous games before a bye week, got one back. Damontre Moore blocked Marquette King's punt and Taylor scooped up the ball at the Raiders 21 and scored.

Oakland took a 10-7 lead on a 33-yard field goal by Janikowski. A fumble by running back Peyton Hillis on a short pass set up the score.

Manning finally got the Giants going in the second quarter, leading an 11-play drive he capped with a 5-yard pass to Rueben Randle.

New York was looking to build off that 14-10 lead just before the half when Manning and Randle connected on a 25-yard pass. But Manning, who had not thrown an interception in the Giants' two wins, reverted back to his old form. Under a little pressure, he underthrew Victor Cruz and a wide-open Porter picked off the ball and was not touched on a 43-yard jaunt to the end zone.
