ROBESONIA -

In his first year as head coach of the Conrad Weiser girls, Mark Owens has returned to his alma mater to lead a young, athletic team in what should be a tight Berks II this season.

The Scouts won 16 games last season, but were ousted in the first round of Districts. Led by a strong core of juniors, Weiser enters the season with hopes of eclipsing last season's success.

That will depend on well the team adjusts to Owens' new schemes and systems. Most of the girls on this team are used to playing zone defense. But this year, Weiser will play more man-to-man, which should suite this team's athleticism very well.

In fact, there are a number of girls on the team that also played on the Scouts' soccer team, the same one that won a county title this year.

Conrad Weiser is expected to compete with Berks Catholic and Fleetwood for the division title.
