Phillies fire Pete Mackanin

Mackanin will move into the front office

The Phillies announced today that they've fired manager Pete Mackanin.

Mackanin will now serve as a special assistant to the general manager, Matt Klentak.

Mackanin went 172-237 in three seasons with the Phillies; he will finish the last three games as manager this year.

The Phillies are 64-95 with those three games remaining and are in last place in the NL East, a position they finished in 2015.

In 2016, they were fourth.
