The Reading baseball team defeated Berks Catholic, 2-1, to win the BCIAA championship on Wednesday. Brandywine Heights captured the county softball crown following their 2-0 victory over Daniel Boone.
At FirstEnergy Stadium, Maicol Parrilla led the (4) Red Knights to their first county championship in 21 years. He pitched a complete game three hitter and added the winning RBI-single to lead Reading over the (7) Saints in one of the best games of the year in Berks County.
Berks Catholic's Christian Dekker was also very good on the mound, going the distance and allowing just two runs.
At Lyons, (2) Brandywine Heights handed (1) Daniel Boone its first loss of the year en route to winning the county title. Taylor Sweigart had a 2-run inside-the-park homer in the first inning, and that's all the Bullets would need as Savanna Ruppert out-dueled Bekah Slattery.
Brandywine had lost to the Blazers earlier this season, as well as in the county final two years ago. Wilson had also knocked off the Bullets in last year's county final.
A congratulations to all county champions.
