Reading High boys, Berks Catholic girls come away with gold after bizarre championship night

READING, Pa. - The Reading High boys and Berks Catholic girls basketball teams won BCIAA Championships on Friday at Santander Arena. But the venue provided more than just a pair of basketball games.

Power went out during the first half of the boys game, and remained off for more 90 minutes, with play resuming after 10:00.

The Red Knights were able to weather the odd turn of events, and turn in a strong defensive effort, in a 61-39 win over (2) Berks Catholic to claim their 3rd straight county championship.

Reading also won for the 20th consecutive time.

Sam Marcinek will have a full game recap on 69 News at Sunrise. The game ended after the Friday's 10:30 Berks Edition went off the air.

In the early game, (7) Berks Catholic won the program's first county title, 58-36, over (5) Wilson WL.

Dejah Terrell had a double-double for B.C., which included 22 points. Taylor Blunt added another 14.

Zakiyah Winfield dropped 14 points for the Bulldogs.

Berks Catholic notched its 7th straight win.
