Fightin Phils drop fifth straight in pitchers' duel

The Reading Fightin Phils (23-18) have now lost five straight games as they lost 1-0 to the Trenton Thunder (28-16) on Wednesday night.  It’s the fifth time this season they’ve been shutout.

Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Jake Cave hit a RBI double off Fightin Phils starter Brandon Leibrandt (3-2) to score Thairo Estrada.

Domingo Acevedo (2-0) was magnificent as he struck out nine batters in 7 1/3 innings of work against the Fightin Phils.  He gave up just three hits, singles to Kyle Martin, Andrew Pullin and Osmel Aguila.  He retired 22 out of the 25 batters he faced.

Leibrandt was solid against the Thunder as he allowed just one run in six innings.  He gave up three hits, issued two walks and struck out six batters.   Leibrandt faced 22 batters and retired 15 of them.  Austin Davis replaced

Leibrandt in the bottom of the seventh.  He recorded one strikeout despite giving up one hit.

Jesen Therrien pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth.  He gave up two hits and struck out one batter.   J.P. Feyereisen pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn his third save of the season.

The Fightin Phils look to avoid the sweep tomorrow morning against the Trenton Thunder.  First pitch is at 10:30 a.m. from ARM & HAMMER Park.
