Philosophy of Education
I earned my bachelor's degree and teaching certification from Bloomsburg University in 1994 and my master's degree and reading specialist certification from Kutztown University in 2007. I started my teaching career at St. Joseph's School in Reading where I taught 5th grade for 3 years. In 1999 I made the move to Schuylkill Valley Elementary School in Leesport where I worked as an aide and long-term substitute for 2 years. In 2001, I started teaching 4th grade, and I'm still teaching 4th grade today. I enjoy the school, the students, the faculty, and the community so much; it's an incredible place to work.
I believe that my first and highest priority in teaching is providing my students with a safe and comfortable environment in which to learn and begin to become the best they can be. While I can provide instruction, impart knowledge, and teach skills, none of that is effective in an uncomfortable environment. My goal is to provide my students with the opportunities to make errors without fear of ridicule in order to learn from those errors and develop the confidence to keep trying. I strive to allow them to work hard and gain the confidence to try anything.
