Berks Co - Toll Gate Rd Bridge Project in Hereford Twp

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced work will begin January 2, 2013 to replace the structurally deficient Toll Gate Road Bridge over Perkiomen Creek in Hereford Township, Berks County.
 
The contractor will replace the existing steel girder bridge with a new steel girder bridge. Crews will also be removing a box culvert just west of the bridge and replacing it with a drainage pipe. 
 
Starting January 2, Tollgate Road will be closed and detoured between PA 100 and PA 29. The posted detour will route traffic on PA 100 and PA 29.
 
Also during construction, Hill Road will be closed at the Toll Gate Road intersection. The detour for Hill Road will utilize PA 100, Kutztown Road, County Line Road, Palm Hill Road, and PA 29. Motorists are advised to allow for extra time and use caution when traveling through the area. 
 
The project is expected to be complete in April 2013. All schedules are weather dependent.
 
Deblin, Inc. of Mechanicsburg, Pa. is the general contractor on the $1,602,960 project.

The Toll Gate Road Bridge was constructed in 1909. The Bridge is 62 feet long and 18 feet wide. The new Bridge will be 105 feet long and 29 feet wide. Toll Gate Road has an average daily traffic volume of 1,848 vehicles.
