Motorists traveling on the US 422/West Shore Bypass will soon enjoy an improved ride due to a betterment project between Business Route 422/Penn Avenue/Penn Street and the Mt. Penn exits in the City of Reading, Wyomissing and West Reading boroughs, and Cumru and Exeter townships in Berks County.

This pavement and bridge preservation project is scheduled to begin Monday, March 19. The project is designed to greatly improve the riding surface for the 60,000 - 80,000 motorists that travel this section of the West Shore Bypass daily.

The project involves milling and paving, patching work, drainage and guiderail upgrades, shoulder preservation and bridge deck repairs.

Beginning Monday evening, motorists can expect weeknight lane restrictions between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. in both the east and westbound directions on the West Shore Bypass. Various interchange ramps along the corridor may be restricted on weekends. Updates will be provided as needed.

The project is expected to be complete in November.

Alan A. Myers of Worcester, Pa. is the general contractor on the $9,773,434 project.
