Bridgeton Hill Road will be closed and detoured between Route 32 (River Road) and Ridge Road in Bridgeton Township, Bucks County on Monday, Oct. 8 for the replacement of the structurally-deficient bridge over the Delaware Canal. The bridge is scheduled to reopen in Aug. 2013.

During construction, Bridgeton Hill Road through traffic will be detoured over Route 32 (River Road), Route 611and Center Hill Road. Motorists will need to allow extra time when traveling through the area. Local access will be maintained up the construction zone.  A temporary pedestrian will be installed next to the current bridge.

Over the next ten months, crews will replace the existing steel I-beam and stone masonry substructure bridge with a composite prestressed box beam bridge with a reinforced concrete deck and substructure.

Crews will also reconstruct and widen roadway approaches; upgrade guide rail, end treatments, and drainage; install pavement markings; reconstruct the tow path at the bridge; and remove a stone masonry wall and built a reinforced concrete retaining wall.

The current one-span bridge was built in 1932 and was rehabilitated in 2006.  It is 48 feet long and 27 feet wide.  The six-ton weight restricted structure carries 2,011 vehicles a day.  The new bridge will be 51 feet long and 34 feet wide. The new bridge will not have a posted weight limit.

Blooming Glen Contractors, of Bucks County is the general contractor on the $1,474,341 project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
