Bucks Co - Bristol Rd Bridge Rehab
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction will begin Monday, March 11 to repair and improve the structurally-deficient Bristol Road Bridge over Mill Creek in Warrington Township, Bucks County.
“We are rebuilding this structurally-deficient bridge to provide Bristol Road motorists with a safe, sound bridge for decades to come,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said.
Crews will improve and strengthen the bridge by removing the existing earth fill above the arch barrel and replace it with reinforced concrete. The plan also includes the installation of guide rail. The improvement project will strengthen and restore the bridge, and remove it from the structurally-deficient category.
Bristol Road will be closed to through traffic for construction until June. Motorists will be detoured over Route 611 (Easton Road), Street Road, and Lower State Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.
The one-span, stone masonry arch bridge was built in 1900 and reconstructed in 1937. It is 15 feet long and 13 feet wide. The structure carries 9,754 vehicles a day.
The Bristol Road Bridge improvement is part of PennDOT’s $1,967,532 project to rehabilitate four deteriorated bridges in Bucks County.
James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project that is financed with 100 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to finish in July 2013.
