PennDOT District 8 today announced that March 11 drainage pipe and roadway base repair work resumes on a project to repair and resurface a 3.47-mile section of Route 272 from just south of Denver Road in East Cocalico Township through Adamstown Borough to the Lancaster/Berks County Line.

The $2,094,178 contract was awarded on Aug. 16, 2012, to New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc., of New Enterprise, Bedford County, and includes drainage work, pipe replacement, curb cut work required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, roadway base and shoulder repair, milling and resurfacing, guiderail and new traffic lines.

PennDOT advises those travelling Route 272 that initially they may encounter daytime lane restrictions between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The contractor may adjust its schedule to a nighttime milling and paving operation, between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., in May and June.

Motorists are advised to be alert for this operation, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews. To avoid delays, travelers should allow for additional time in their plans or seek an alternate route.

Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2013.

Route 272, known locally as North Reading Road, averages 18,880 vehicles traveled daily.
