The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a new traffic signal at the intersection of PA 100 with Claussville and Kernsville roads in Lowhill Township, Lehigh County has been fully activated. The signal has been in flash mode to get motorists familiar with the signal.
Over the next several weeks motorists will experience weekday lane restrictions with flagging on Claussville Road as work occurs in the shoulder areas. All work is anticipated to be complete by mid-December.
Work began in October 2011 to improve safety at this intersection. The project includes the creation of a new signalized intersection, widening the intersection for left turn only lanes on all four approaches, new signs and pavement markings, and drainage improvements. Additionally, Claussville Road was realigned at the intersection.
“These intersection safety improvements should reduce the number and severity of crashes at this location,” District Executive Michael W. Rebert said. “We appreciate the support and patience of the community during this important project.”
The general contractor on the $2,162,073 project is New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. of New Enterprise, Pa.
The intersection has an average daily traffic volume of 17,556 vehicles on PA 100, 2,100 vehicles on Claussville Road and 4,480 vehicles on Kernsville Road.
