Major construction will begin March 29 to greatly improve the intersection of Route 100 and Claussville and Kernsville roads.

Beginning tomorrow motorists can expect new traffic patterns on Route 100 between Windy and Pony roads. For approximately two weeks there will be single lane conditions with flagging weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. This is to allow shoulder widening work to occur so traffic can be shifted to one side while the new intersection is constructed.

Also beginning tomorrow and lasting approximately two weeks, Claussville Road will be closed and detoured between Route 100 and Corporate/Tycolia Court. After that it will remain closed and detoured between Windy Road and Route 100 and remain closed for the duration of the project. During these closures the posted detour route for Claussville Road traffic will be Seipstown Road, Route 863 and Lyon Valley Road (access will be maintained for residents and businesses on Claussville Road).

The project includes the creation of a new signalized intersection that includes widening the intersection for left turn only lanes on all four approaches, new signs and pavement markings, and drainage improvements. Additional work includes a minor realignment of Claussville Road at the intersection.

The general contractor on the $2,162,073 project is New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. of New Enterprise, Pa.

The intersection has an average daily traffic volume of 17,556 vehicles on PA 100, 2,100 vehicles on Claussville Road and 4,480 vehicles on Kernsville Road.

Work began last October to clear vegetation and move utility lines prior to major construction. The project is expected to be completed in December.
