Lehigh Co - Rt 309 Improvements in North Whitehall
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced much needed improvements to the intersection of PA 309 and Sand Spring Road/Orchard Road in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County have begun.
The improvements include intersection widening to add left turn lanes, traffic signal improvements, full depth roadway reconstruction, new pedestrian facilities, drainage improvements and other miscellaneous construction.
Motorists should expect daytime lane restrictions with flagging at the intersection of PA 309 and Sand Spring Road/Orchard Road.
Also, during later phases of construction motorists may experience lane restrictions or closures on Sand Spring and Orchard roads.
Updates will be provided whenever traffic patterns change. Delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to use caution and allow for extra time traveling through the work zone.
The project is expected to be complete in November. All schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
The Kriger Construction, Inc. of Dickson City, Pa. is the general contractor on the $5,489,123 million project.
This section of PA 309 has an average daily traffic volume of 21,647 vehicles south of the intersection and 19,536 vehicles north of the intersection. The average daily traffic on Sand Spring Road is 2,876 vehicles, on Orchard Road average daily traffic is 2,260 vehicles.
