Montgomery Co - Elm St Bridge Replacement in Conshohocken
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction will begin Monday (Dec. 10) to replace the deteriorated Elm Street Bridge over Plymouth Creek and the Cross County Bicycle Trail in Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County.
“We are rebuilding this structurally-deficient bridge to provide Elm Street motorists with a safe, modern bridge for decades to come,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said.
Over the next 10 months, crews will remove and replace the bridge’s deck, beams and center pier, and a retaining wall over the Cross County Bicycle Trial. The project also includes drainage improvements.
Elm Street will be closed and detoured between Colwell Road and Corson Street. The posted detour will take Elm Street through traffic over Fayette Street/Butler Pike, North Lane, Ridge Pike, and Conshohocken Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
Clearwater Construction, Inc., of Mercer, Pa, is the general contractor on the $3,144,000 project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The new bridge is expected to finish in October 2013.
