Motorists traveling on US 209 in western Schuylkill County will soon enjoy an improved ride due to a betterment project between approximately 850 feet north of Terry Street in Porter Township and the Tremont Borough line.
This pavement preservation project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 16. The project is designed to greatly improve the riding surface for the motorists that travel US 209 daily in Porter, Frailey and Tremont townships.
The project involves base repairs, milling and paving, drainage improvements, guiderail upgrades, and line painting. The project also includes repairing and paving the ramps for the Interstate 81 interchange with US 209.
Beginning Monday, and lasting through the completion of the project, motorists can expect weekday (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) lane restrictions with flagging at various locations throughout the project limits. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and allow for extra time when traveling through the work zones. Updates will be provided if work times change.
The project is expected to be complete in November. The average daily traffic volume on this section of US 209 varies between 2,017 vehicles near Tremont and 6,704 vehicles near Tower City.
New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company, Inc. of New Enterprise, Pa. is the general contractor on the $4,421,341 project.
